Well, it's official. I have now joined the ranks of the unemployed! I was in Charlotte, North Carolina working as a trainer for National Board. It was a wonderful experience. The people I worked with were wonderful, and Charlotteans are just so nice! I was able to finish early, and came home on Thursday. As the plane was landing, I was thinking that in less than three weeks, I would be back on one again, this time going in the opposite direction for a very long time!
It feels very real now. With only 16 days before departure, we are working hard to get everything done. This weekend was spent packing up boxes and taking things to our tiny 5X10 warehouse space. I told Kevin he must be a master Tetris player, because he made everything fit (with a little brute force)! We are living with the bare bone essentials in an apartment that is so empty, it echoes! This week will be spent running many errands, squeezing in last minute visits, and packing! In fact, Kevin's new real estate purchase showed up last week in the form of a North Face backpack! It is SOOO nice - the BMW of bags. As it will be his home for the next couple of years, it was important to get a good one!
We want to thank all of you again for all of your love and support! So many of you have offered to help, whether by loaning out a truck (thank you Gary/Dad!), loaning a backpack (thank you Shane and Amber!), providing a hot meal (read: all cooking utensils have been packed!), or by purchasing a gift that keeps us in touch with English-speaking short-wave radio stations and the latest weather reports (thanks, Dan!). We often reflect on how overwhelmed we feel (in a good way) at all of the love and support that has so graciously been bestowed upon us from our circle of friends and family. You guys are the best and we hope to represent you and carry thoughts of you through our travels. We hope that you will stay in touch with us, as this is what will keep us going.
Much love and many, many blessings ... Idalis and Kevin

Oh,Oh,...you've created a monster, I can't stop blogging now!!! Sorry I missed you getting your Japanese Encephalitis shots, (Are you feeling Japanese now?) Ha,Ha. Actually, it's only for the Japanese Enceph. that they recommend you wait about 30 minutes after administration, in case there are any adverse reactions. That's why I didn't have you wait after your other vaccines, it wasn't necessary. I won't be at the clinic when you go on the 4th, actually, while I was out on vacation, they eliminated my position due to budget cuts anyway, so I don't know if I'll be working there again. My kids are great, thanks for asking. The boys are both learning to play the electric guitar this summer, and my Katherine is learning piano. They are having a blast and we are getting to take them to D.C. and NYC for a week, we leave on Friday. Actually Kevin, I have to say, that my youngest one, Alex reminds me so much of you. I have a feeling he's going to grow up to be a lot like you. I hope I'm that lucky, to have a son like you. You are both such wonderful kids. I know your families are very proud of you. You are both way cool. O.K., I told you, I can't stop blogging now!!! We'll be in touch, there are no goodbyes. Mercy
Mercy (a.k.a. The Blog Monster),
I am glad to see you have gotten on board! I am sorry to hear that you will not be there on the 4th and can't believe that they cut your position. However, throughout this process, I have realized that most things happen for a reason. Therefore, I can only imagine that there is something better waiting for you. Since you do not work there anymore, I guess I can be honest...I have no idea how you were able to do it. Even though we have become friends with everyone in the office, especially Andre, it is pure torture going through that system!
Thank you so much for the wonderful compiments. We also think the world of you! We are also convinced that your kids have the best mother ever! I would love to meet Alex one day. Maybe I can learn a thing or two. Perhaps we can come and see them perform once their band becomes huge!
We hope you have a wonderful vacation and a great rest of the summer! There are wonderful things in store for you and your family and you totally deserve it! Until the next blog entry, stay safe and enjoy your travels!
